Being from New York, sneakers were all I knew. I always had a new pair of sneakers on my feet every other week. And when I got old enough to start having a say in which sneakers I wanted, I made sure that they complimented my style. It wasn't until my sophomore year of high school that I realized the beauty of the heaven-sent shoe that is the high-heel. I gave up my sneaker-head obsession in exchange for a much fancier addiction. I was anti-sneaker for 4 years. I dedicated my shoe shopping time to sandals, pumps and boots. I walked pass every sneaker, with the exception of the Prada ones I got for my birthday..because I mean like..c'mon....they're Prada. It wasn't until recently that I was cleaning off my floor-to-ceiling shoe shelf when I realized that I have a pretty decent sneaker collection, and some of the sneakers can be brought back to life. Among the few that I realize I am still in love with, were these canvas Jordan 1 Retros. I opened the box and thought "damn, I could so still rock these." And so I did.
Staying true to my somewhat girly ways, I paired them with a black leather mini-pencil skirt, a gray tee, and a white and navy stripped blazer.
As a New York native and major Old school Hip-Hop culture junkie, I recognize the history in the sneaker. Being able to own enough well-kept sneakers that I'm sure will make any sneaker-head ask me "how much you want for those?" is kinda dope. I've decided to give my feet a full variety of shoes. I will no longer limit my feet to just the girly things in life. Its time I make them remember where they came from ;)
